Mustang (US)
Mustang (Europe)
The first two inside pages of the 1976 US Ford European brochure shows the Mustang II Ghia coupe. The text reads: Mustang II Ghia Sporty performance with super-luxury. The Ghia is the car for the man who wants everything the Mustang II can offer - plus the ultimate in luxury. Let's take a look. Right at the top is the super smart vinyl roof. Then there are the new opera windows neatly set into the rear side of the passenger cabin. Dual pin stripes with colour-keyed vinyl insert body mouldings accentuate the, low rakish look. There are twin, streamlike-shaped wing mirror. The deluxe Ghia spoke-style wheel covers and Ghia badging add another quality distinctive touch. Looks like these you can take anywhere - in the certain knowledge that you're going to collect some pretty envious looks along the way. And with looks like these on the outside, you'd imagine the inside would have a lot going for it too. You'd be right. Slip into the super-luxurious seating and admire the deluxe seat trim. You can pick Westminster cloth or Super-soft vinyl. The choice is yours. Note the deluxe door and quarter trim. Seat belts, of course. And rest your feet on the sumptuous cut-pile carpeting. It's colour-keyed to the rest of the interior trim and the quality wouldn't shame a playboy penthouse suite. There's a centre console that houses an ashtray for the rear seat passengers. There are door courtesy lights. And for lovers of the quiet life, you'll find the sound-proofing inside the Mustang II Ghia is about as good as that of a recording studio. Pretty special. Even more special, though is the Silver/Cranberry specialty Ghia. The new shimmer-shine Silver Metallic finish puts you ahead of the herd, without shouting about it. The Cranberry bodyside tape stripes and special Silver moulding and the unique stand-up bonnet ornament add their own quietly stylish touches. And the Silver Normande grain half-vinyl roof caps the lot with effortless elegance. Inside, it's the same story. Lavish luxury. The whole of the beautifully tailored interior is delicately colour-keyed in Cranberry tones. The seat trim is Media velour - so comfortable it's almost sinful. And there's a useful centre console conveniently placed between the front seats. In short, for a small-size car, the Mustang Ghia is far and away the biggest thing in luxury on the road.
