Sales brochure for the 2016 Ford Focus Electric. This 100% electric vehicle has a top speed of 84 mph and single charge range of 76 miles. Recharging takes 3.6 hours with a 240V/30 amp home system. I just did a quick calculation. A full charge would cost $2.10 (at 8.35 cents/kWh electric costs). About 2 gallons of gas would cover 76 miles in an efficient gas engine for $3.50 (at $1.75 per gallon). So that's a savings of $1.40 per 76 miles. Given a lifetime of 150,000 miles that would be a savings of $2,763.00. But also electric has zero emissions and a car with much less moving parts hopefully resulting in less maintenance. Many things to consider...
